For our January Great Escapes Event, Richmond Starlight families spent the evening at Work of Art Pottery. After enjoying pizza, salad, fruit and cookies, we all set out to choose the perfect piece of pottery to paint (Wow! There are a lot of “P’s” in that sentence). There were so many choices! A dinosaur for Dorian, a truck for Liam, a realistic monkey for Mary, vases, footballs, a beautiful ballerina for Anna, and elephants were just a few. Some of our Starlight moms and dads even took on harder projects like family fruit bowls, vases and plates. With paints and brushes, everyone was hard at work creating their masterpieces. With a small group, it was such a relaxing event for a Sunday evening. We all took our time painting, catching up, and meeting new friends. Our new Great Escapes Volunteer, Vanessa, was our guest photographer. She took fabulous pictures of us that will be great to keep in our Starlight Memory boxes so that we will never forget all the fun we had painting our own pottery. It was also the first Great Escapes event for Ber and his mom Amber. Ber chose to paint a football for his dad! He painted it orange, because his dad likes orange. Vanessa captured some great shots of Ber and his mom together. The Anderson girls ended up with a great platter and a basket for Grandma. Dawn did a purple mug with a yellow star! Xavier never missed a chance to smile and give a thumbs up for the camera. All of our families received a Starlight calendar to take home and mark our next Great Escape. I cannot wait to hear how everyone’s pottery turned out after it was cooked and glazed!
