A ball at the Nats game!

August 26, 2008

On Sunday, August 17 our DC families enjoyed a fun-filled day at the Nationals baseball game.  The Nats took on the Colorado Rockies, and a great time was had by all.  Our section was a sea of yellow as our families proudly wore their Starlight MidAtlantic t-shirts.  Both parents and kids enjoyed hot dogs, cotton candy, peanuts, and other stadium snacks!  Although the Nats lost to the Rockies, our families were all winners that day!  Check out the pictures:

Lions, Tigers and Bears-Oh My!

August 25, 2008

Thunderstorms could not dampen the enthusiasm of the Starlight MidAtlantic families who attended our recent Great Escapes event at the Philadelphia Zoo.

After lunch and an animal presentation in the Peacock Pavilion, the families spent the afternoon exploring the zoo and learning about all of its furry (and not-so-furry) inhabitants.  Thanks to the staff of the Philadelphia Zoo, Aramark and our dedicated team of Starlight MidAtlantic volunteers for a wonderful afternoon!

Putt Putt & Go-Kart Event in Richmond

August 12, 2008

This weekend we had a blast at Windy Hills Sports Complex.  We started the day with a round of Putt Putt and then had a Sub lunch from Zero’s.  While eating lunch we played the Wii.  The kids loved playing bowling, baseball and boxing.  After lunch we went down to the Go-Karts and that is where the fun and rush began.

The little ones were able to ride with Mom and Dad, while the teens were able to race one another.  We can’t wait to go back and start a new race.

Cooking gets Crazy with Sheilah!

August 11, 2008

Families in the DC area got creative and whipped up some excellent dishes led by chef Sheilah!

The ingredients for the day included lots of smiles, new friends, and a camaraderie created through enjoying food together. From the fresh squeezed blueberry lemonade to the chicken lettuce wraps, to the irresistible Reese’s peanut butter cup cookies, everyone had a hard time choosing just what to eat first! Things got a little wild when preparing the delicious homemade ice cream. Taking the given nickname “Football Ice Cream” literally, the kids tossed and shook their concoctions all around the basement. In addition to a very full stomach, each family left with cookbooks including the new things they had learned to make and Starlight MidAtlantic aprons so they could continue their cooking adventures at home. Who knows…the next Top Chef could be one of the Starlight MidAtlantic stars.
