This past weekend we had a great time in Richmond.  We went to It’z Party Time Bounce house and enjoyed jumping, sliding and visiting.  This was the perfect event for the parents and kids to get to know one another and meet new friends.  While resting we made bug houses, journals and bug finder.  Thanks to Nintendo we enjoyed playing with the Wii at this event.  We are now hooked.  The Wii was so much fun and we can’t wait for the next event when we play with each other again.

Pirate Adventure on the High Seas!

July 22, 2008

Last Sunday, our DC/Baltimore families enjoyed a Pirate Adventure in Annapolis, MD. We started the day off with face painting, tattoo painting, dressing up as pirates, and learning the pirate lingo. We then boarded the pirate ship to begin our day on the high seas. Once aboard, the pirate in each of the kids truly came out, as they “arghhed” and jeered with the best of them! The pirates found the keys to the treasure chest hidden by a rival pirate, but only after they doused him with water from their cannons! With the help of a treasure chest, the pirates found the treasure chest. They then opened the treasure chest to find booty and loot galore! After filling their pirate pockets with gold and other treasure, they enjoyed grog. We then returned to shore, where we enjoyed lunch and told pirate tales!

This past Saturday we went to Bowl America and had so much fun bowling.  We visited with friends and got to know new friends.  We also made bowling pictures frames, so we could remember this great event.  The kids had so much fun they didn’t want to stop bowling.  We ended the event with a pizza lunch.

Hollywood comes to Children’s Hospital!

July 16, 2008

June 27, 2008.

The glamour and glitz of Hollywood hit the Renal Care Unit At Children’s Hospital. Outpatients in the Dialysis unit enjoyed a Hollywood-themed party. The dialysis room was transformed to a Hollywood wonderland, complete with Hollywood decorations. The kids, nurses, (and us!) were all glammed up in boas, sunglasses, and red carpet worthy clothes. The patients received Oscars awards, and munched on the special Hollywood lunch. Everyone enjoyed watching movies during the day. Many of the kids “walked the red carpet”, check out the photos below! It was truly a memorable day of Hollywood glamour in D.C!

Starlight MidAtlantic’s Second Annual Evening Under the Stars at Citizens Bank Park

July 14, 2008

Last Wednesday evening, twenty two Starlight MidAtlantic families enjoyed our second annual “Evening Under the Stars at Citizens Bank Park” in Philadelphia.  The evening got underway with a delicious All-American picnic dinner sponsored by Aramark and the Philadelphia Phillies with special appearances by Starlight MidAtlantic’s very own Starry and the Philadelphia Phanatic.  Larry Andersen and Gary Matthews (two former Phillies players and current broadcasters) also stopped by during dinner to meet the families and sign autographs.  The excitement continued as the families cheered the Phillies to victory over the St. Louis Cardinals before enjoying a brilliant fireworks display.

Very special thanks to the Philadelphia Phillies, Aramark, Walmart, Inc., NBC10, and our wonderful volunteers who made this special evening possible!
